  • India, West Bengal, Darjeeling, Balasun tea Estate

The Balasun Tea estate, lies between our two beloved Tea Estates: Singbulli and Makaibari in the beautiful Kurseong Valley. The river Balason is gentle flowing through, connecting the high water from the famous Tiger Hill with Mahananda river in loving union. Balasun Tea estate was created in 1871 and from back then until now, they've created some of the best Darjeeling teas you could possibly taste. Balasun T-Estate spreads from lower altitude of 400 m.a.s.l. up to the breathtaking misty hills of 1300 m.a.s.l., but 1st flush picks are always plucked at the highest points, where the new fresh buds are the best & juiciest. The estate is located near a tiny hamlet town of Sonada, one of the stations for the heritage Darjeeling Toy train :) and what a cute train that is, choo choooo.

DRY LEAF: Beautifully dried-crispy leaves, their hues ranging from bright emerald green to honey-like yellow & soft grey-brown colours. There's an abundance of silver buds. Fragrance of tulip flowers, butter & mangoes is powerful and accompanied by the classic & always presented petrichor note (Petrichor is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil).
INFUSED LEAF: Wet leaves give a various shades of brighter greens & yellow colours with a little crimson marks. They are little crumbled, but very beautiful to look at. Floral, fruity and spicy (saffron/coriander) aroma is raising from the cup.
LIQUOR: Bright golden apricot-like cup with a fresh flowery bouquet of spring tulips, daffodils & osmanthus. The mouthfeel is extremely green, bright, juicy and brisk. Floral notes are mingling with very fresh notes of watercress, artichokes & green apples. You can also taste earth, rain, fresh almonds and spicy tangy coriander. Notes of saffron are making the cup incredibly delicious. You can find plenty of astringency & little acidity in the cup alongside great power. This tea is a lustrous pearl.

"Litlle Poetry" by JD

"Strong, green to yellow hues of broken air
Shooting down into dry pile of silvery hay
He sleeps in the middle, the soul bound wanderer
Breathing in and out the delight air, so fragrant and fair..
A vivid smell of osmanthus flowers,
reminds him of her, they used to be lovers.
Her lively, powerful and clear almond eyes,
the gooseberry hills, the rain, petrichor and lies..."
